Dating from Wholeness, Not from Wounds
Grace Adeyemi·

Healing is not a prerequisite for being loveable. It is a prerequisite for loving someone without asking them to finish the work you abandoned.
Plenty of Christian singles rush back into dating because loneliness feels like failure. Loneliness is uncomfortable. Dating from an unhealed place is expensive — for you and for whoever arrives next.
Signs you may still be dating from a wound
- You need constant reassurance that you will not be left.
- You confuse intensity with intimacy within the first few weeks.
- You rewrite red flags as “something God will fix later.”
- You cannot tell the story of your last relationship without bitterness taking over the whole account.
A wound that is not named will recruit your next relationship to finish its argument.
What wholeness looks like in practice
You can be alone without panicking
Not forever. Not without wanting companionship. Just without treating every quiet evening as evidence that something is wrong with you.
You can tell the truth about what hurt you
To a friend, a pastor, a counsellor — someone safe. Healing rarely happens in private diaries alone. It happens when the story is spoken and held.
Your boundaries are clearer than your fear
Fear builds walls. Wisdom builds doors with locks you choose when to open. If every boundary is really a panic response, you are still reacting — not choosing.
A gentle order of operations
- Name what actually happened — not the edited version.
- Get one trustworthy person into the story with you.
- Decide what you will not repeat, and write it down.
- Only then open yourself to dating again.
You do not have to be finished to begin again. You do have to be honest. When you are ready to meet people who take that seriously, our membership plans are waiting — no pressure, just a place to start.
